Great Friend and Supporter of Soul City Groove
We regret to announce that Phil Nestor, a founding member and leader of Soul City Groove is retiring from our band, although not from music. Look for Phil in other exciting musical projects gracing stages in our area. We all will miss him greatly and appreciate all he has done, and is still doing, for this band.
Philip Nestor grew up in Queens. He started piano lessons at 9, but at thirteen he got a snare drum and hi hat from money he saved up from a summer job. At eighteen he started lessons and started playing with friends in different bands. Since then, he's worked in clubs around New York City, played in Broadway Shows, and was the show drummer for the former Nevele Hotel for nine years, playing six nights a week. Since then, he's worked at various other hotels, and played with many local bands. He is a founding member of Soul City Groove, and can frequently be heard playing with Alana Wyld and her group Wyld Blu.
